SG ETUO — Spotting Group Gütersloh

Aufgrund seiner unmittelbaren Nähe zur innerdeutschen Grenze war RAF Gütersloh von den über 70 Militärflugplätzen und Heliports in Deutschland eine der aktivsten und meist angeflogenen Basen. Eine hohe Gastflugzeugzahl, verschiedene stationierte Luftfahrzeugmuster und die Nähe zu Übungs-, Tiefflug-, aber auch potentiellen Einsatzgebieten im Ernstfall sicherte der Basis bis zum Ende des kalten Krieges diese Stellung. Alleine im Jahr 1986 wurden über 58.000 Flugbewegungen gezählt, das entspricht 160 am Tag, incl. der Wochenenden.
